Trolls Oreos

I’ve always loved Oreos. Both parts of the cookie, the crème and the biscuit, have been crafted in a way that compliments each of the flavors. It brings out the best of the qualities that it is trying to create. Many have tried to replicate the combination, and, in my opinion, they have all failed miserably. As a poor college student who didn’t have a whole lot of money, I would often forgo the name brand Oreos in order to get some cheap knock-off. Just to get the thrill. But now as an adult, I have the money (kinda) to spend on random snacks. Although, I don’t normally buy Oreos because it is a dangerous food…

There have been many different Oreo flavors that have come out over the year. Some just augmented the ratio of cookie to crème (see double stuff), some add coatings to the original (see… ) and other have flavored the crème in order to change the flavor profile a bit (see mint). Honestly, I’ve always been under the assumption that the best Oreo was the original recipe. Although, I do have a fondness for the thin Oreos that have been in production for the last few years.

By Chance…

I was looking for those thin Oreos when I came across the colorful package of the Trolls brand Oreos. I did see online that they were selling these Oreos, but I had thought that since the Trolls movie had come out ages ago, I missed my chance to have them. Luckily, I was mistaken. Honestly, I thought that the Oreos were going to be regular flavored Oreos with different color crème inside, so I wasn’t expecting a whole lot with the flavor profiles.

Honestly, just look at the packaging. How could I NOT buy these?

First, the pink crème Oreos. The packaging was colored in this soft, pink, pastel gradient that went from pink to orange, and it also displayed the main character of the Trolls, Poppy. The flavor of the Oreo, according to the passage was “pink colored crème with glitter.” Which was not a promising start at all. The cookie itself was more akin to the Golden Oreos, which is one of the Oreo flavors that markets itself toward people who are averse to chocolate? That’s all conjecture though. I’m not sure what their reason is for making that bland cookie.

How to Eat an Oreo…

Now, before I continue, I should explain what I think is the “proper” way to eat an Oreo. Of course, this is all subjective, and if you don’t eat your Oreos this way, more power to you. This is just how I tend to eat mine.

First, you separate the layers of the cookie so that you have one biscuit with all the crème and one biscuit sans crème. Then you eat the biscuit without the crème. After finishing that portion, you eat half the second biscuit with the crème and let it dissolve in your mouth. Then, you either finish the rest of the cookie or eat the crème separately from that half and eat the rest of the biscuit afterwards. Again, if you eat your cookie in a different manner, you do you fam, but this is how I was eating these cookies and how I will be evaluating them. Now, back to the Trolls.

When I split apart the Oreo, I was shocked (but probably shouldn’t have been) to see the pink crème had stained the biscuit pink as well. Which didn’t bode well at all. The biscuit itself tasted like a regular Golden Oreo biscuit, so a little bland, but had all the texture of a regular Oreo, so I wasn’t complaining. The biscuit gave me hope that maybe this cookie was going to be normal, and that I would be pleasantly surprised with the taste. However, the crème changed my opinion almost instantaneously.

Pink Glitter Oreos…

My first bite with both the crème and the biscuit… concerned me to say the least. It didn’t taste like a normal Golden Oreo. In fact, to me it tasted a little rotten. And maybe that is just because I haven’t eaten a Golden Oreo for a long time, but it just tasted of to me. As if they left the crème out for too long.

I mean... It just looks like chemical waste.

Suffice to say, I wasn’t looking forward to the other Oreo. The package was a pastel blue fade to pastel green, and the character on the cover was Tiny Diamond, a spunky little troll with a penchant for rap. Now, I didn’t really take a look at the cover before buying it because I foolishly assumed that the two Oreos were going to be the same flavor. Fortunately, I was incorrect.

The Heavenly Oreo…

The package stated that the Oreo flavor was “green color crème with glitter and popping candy.” Popping candy. POPPING CANDY. I guess another thing to note about me. I love Pop Rocks. It definitely ranks very high in my candy tier list (note: must make a candy tier list). And candy that has popping candy in it? Automatically elevates its status in my eyes.

When I took my first bite of this Oreo… I transcended into a different plane of existence. It kept the same, classic Oreo flavors. Very addicting. But it added a new texture to the already amazing flavor. The way that I eat the Oreo also allowed for me to experience the maximum popping potential as well.

The specks of Pop Rocks... It makes a world of difference.

The biscuit is crisp and adds the chocolate flavoring. The crème is sweet and balances out the cookie well. It is a classic for a reason, and the popping candy just elevates everything about the cookie. It causes you to savor the flavors and let the nuances of the cookie marinate before the popping begins. And when it begins, it becomes a delightful surprise.

Aftermath

I’m not ashamed to admit that I did buy… Five more cases of this Oreo flavor. I needed to share this experience with others. And a majority of those who ate the Oreo were also entranced by the foreign texture.

This is a gimmick that I could see working in the future. I mean, I bought many… Many cases of the cookie, and honestly, I’m upset that I didn’t buy more. Basically, this is just a long note asking the Oreo company to give the people what they want. And what they want is popping Oreos. I have a physical need.

Final ratings:

- Pink Trolls Oreo: 2/10

- Green Trolls Oreo: 11/10

This is literally the only overwhelmingly positive review that I’ve written in a long time. Also, I'm sorry that there are no photos of me this time around because I looked really bad.
